My wife found a black 1994 D quarter that is a ddo/ddr all the letters the date and the mint mark are doubled on the obverse, and the olive branch and some leaves are doubled on the reverse as well as the stick Eagle is attatched to. I have looked in the strike it rich book as well as online and cannot find anything similar to it can you guys help me out.
Get involved in learning about machine doubling and die deterioration ... it confuses a lot of beginners. Basically, this is not a doubled die.
As stated.. Mechanical Doubling.. Considered worthless doubling. Nothing to do with a true Doubled Die variety. It's dark because of Environmental Damage.
Really? A lot of members here scoff at that book. It's ok but most of the coins you will ever find in circulation is PMD - Post Mint Damage, circulation wear and tear, Environmental Damage, Mechanical Doubling and/or altered fakes. Be patient.. It takes a very long time to distinguish all I mentioned from true errors and varieties.
Some people who have failed to "strike it rich" in their chosen profession usually write books to make money. It's no different for coin collectors. Chris
The doubling is MD or mechanical doubling. To coin collectors is worthless as is happens all the time. Very common on today's coins. The darkness is from ED or environmental damage. The value of the coin is on the reverse, a quarter. Welcome to CT.
Yes...ED and DDD. Sometimes MD is mistaken for DDD (and vice versa), but they are both worthless doubling...which, btw, you need to study. Under no circumstances should you rely on You Tube videos or any "Strike it Rich" book...Spark
