Sorry friend, I don't think you're going to find many people willing to hunt through 7,000 (or more) pages of the Standard Catalog of World Coins trying to find a match to your description. My guess is that at least 5,000 of those pages have a picture of one or more 18-20mm coins. Chances are the "wierd squiggles" may be arabic writing, but I can't think of any country that would combine sanskrit and arabic characters on the same coin - assuming that you are right about the "wierd writing" being sanskrit. Good luck!
thanks for the advice...... well on 1 side of the coin it has like sand script /old chinese writing but on the other side it looks like arabic not modern arabic.
Constantine,I'm not sure how old Indian temple tokens are,nor do I know what they are worth,as that is not in my line of expertise. Aidan.
Constantine - since you have private messaging turned off and won't accept e-mails from the forum, I am forced to post this publicly. One subject is entitled to one thread. Period.
It sounds like a copper dump from the Sikh Empire (India). You might try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins to determine the specific coin. Without a photo that's as close as you'll likely be able to get here. Also post it on the South Asian Coins Group site. Temple tokens date from the 1800's (maybe earlier?) to modern times. Value depends on the amount of collector demand. There are a couple on Ebay.com. Brad
