I found 3 star notes in my cash this weekend. All were circulated. I know that unless it is a super low number or crisp unc, there probably isn't much value to them but one of them is a Series 1963A $50 note. Is there any value to this and is it worth keeping? Thanks.
The '63A is worth more than face, especially if it is in nicer condition. The value is also determined by what Federal Reserve District it was printed for, some are a lot more common or scarcer than others.
Its in better condition that I would have thought being in circulation for so long. It was released from the Richmond, Virginia Federal Reserve. Serial number is 260709*
Paper is unforgiving to bumps and folds, etc. If you have time, you could pop it on a scanner and upload a pic of each side to get a better idea of grade for value over face.
Yep, that helps! I'd say about VF and perhaps could fetch about $100-$120. If Gem quality, perhaps about $250ish. You could check Heritage auction archives for what they are going for uncertified in similar condition. These PMG and PCGS grading scales are handy for a general idea of grading.
Thanks Chris. I was at my local coin show this weekend and someone bought some coins from me and used this note along with the other star notes that I got as payment. Also got a series 2006 $20 star and a series 2009 $100 star. No low numbers and both circulated as the $50.
I do the same thing with circulated notes, saving them to buy things at shows and shops, and have advised people on the forum to do the same with such worn stars and well worn notes.
Joe better be careful of counterfeits, you have my address so just send them all over , gold coins too for verification services only of course .
