I have two 81 sba proof dollars. I need help in figuring out if either one is type 2. coins are named 1 and 1.1 and so on for coin 1 and 2 and 2.1 and so on for coin 2. thanks
I'd go with Type 1 for coin 2. If you draw a line through the "S" to make a dollar sign, the highest point on the mint mark is to the left of the line. On the Type 2, the highest point is well to the right of the line. I think picture 2.3 shows it best. Coin 1 is tougher and may be a Type 2 (based on picture 1.2). Photographing proofs can produce some interesting results.
