Hi everyone will i recently purchase a 1902-o morgan dollar. I didnt do any research on it before i bought it because they wont gave u a hold time anyone that has the money first was the winner. So i just got it since it was in slap and graded ms-66. After my purchase came home thinking that i got something nice hoping ill find everything online about the coin. Will noPE the third party "USCG" that supposely the grader has a webpage but the link for question was a error. Anyhow sorry for a boring story. But can someone let me know how much is the coin really worth and what do u think it is graded at. Thanks
I normally stay away from slabs unless they are from PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. Otherwise, I consider them raw coins in a nice case. I would take some better photos, without flash, and in natural light. Based on those photos, I don't see any luster, which makes me think that the coin may have been cleaned. I also see many contact marks on the coin and maybe some slight wear on the high points. I would say it is either a cleaned coin, or around an AU-58 or MS-62, depending if the coin has any wear or not. I would really need better photos to tell for sure, it probably looks much nicer in person. Still, Morgan Dollars are always nice, I enjoy collecting them. I am just curious as to how much you paid.
I can't tell you anything about the VAM, which possibly may add value, but like the others have said, nowhere close to a 66. Value? Assuming a problem free but lower uncirculated grade, because the cheek looks to have contact marks......maybe $40-$60. I hope you didn't get took.
Very nice , deep strike, nice rim, easily MS 65 plus, I agree with grade, and who cares if its not one of the top grading company's. it stands on its own, with grade & company wrapped around it. makes it more unique and someone would pay $180 or slightly more, it could have a lot of competition being common year, but now days once common years in mint condition, becoming more and more scarce. hold onto it for a few years until prices are realized, or you never know silver could jump. but definitely worth more than its silver value at silvers current rate.
Thank you i really appreciate your thought about my coin it make me feel more better. But i wish i paid that price.i pay 3 almost 4
It looks better in the new photos. Enjoy it. But...the 1902O is not rare, it's readily available, and slabs like these are good for nothing but leading people astray as far as what a coin grades by generally accepted grading standards.
Wow you paid $400 ?? thats not a $400 coin , you should have checked what a coin like that is worth before bidding , USAcoinbook.com gives you an idea what a coin is worth at grade .
Unfortunately for the OP agreed. Has nothing to do with being snobbish and everything to do with the quality of grading. Grades are not all equal from every company and those 4-6 generic companies should be completely ignored and treated as raw. Implying that they should be treated as equals will cost people a lot of money and lead to a lot of disappointment if someone reads that and believes it
Correct i was going off of pcgs quote. So i thought with the vam varieties it would gave it more value. So far it seem like a big lost on my part.
Not sure on the VAM value @Cascade @messydesk @SuperDave but one of them should know. I don't do VAMs so I couldn't even tell you if it is that VAM or not. For grading companies like that I wouldn't put any weight in their attributions either unless you can confirm yourself that you know it's correct.
