Hello and once again I would like to ask for an opinion of this board member which is by the way a great site. I just joined today and alrady love it Ok. I have two coins which are both graded by NGC 1) 1861 A Austria Florin MS-63 2 1861 Germany Gulden Frankfurt MS-64 I know what the are worh in Unc condition but have no idea what would they be worth in MS. Once again thank you
The Frankfurt 1 Gulden.....or any Frankfurt gulden in high grade from 1838 to 1863 is a good coin to own. Mintages are low and high grade samples command a good price. I would think yours would be close to $400 (or more) in MS64. I do like the looks of the guldens. The Austrian piece....which is a nice coin to own if it was minted at the Kremnica mint. It would have a B mint mark. Your has the A mint mark which is from the Vienna mint (Wien). I would think it would be worth around $125.00 in MS63. One from the Kremnica mint would bring around $750 in MS63. There are people on here that can give a better answer to your question. Being new myself to the site, I should just stay on the side lines, and let the other more knowledgeable one's give the answers.
Thanks regadon for your replay. I am glad to hear that the coins are worth that much. I will try to post a scan of the gulden. I agree that they are nice looking coins.
There are two coins that you should look into getting to go along with your Frankfurt gulden. One of the best looking coins from the later 1800's is the 2 Thaler ( 3 1/2 Gulden ). The KM# is 365. You could get the 1861 date to go along with your Gulden. The other is the 1863 ( KM#372 ) Thaler. You can find these two coins in MS63 for as low as $375 to as high as $450.
