hello everyone I really could use some help from the comunity as i am still very much new at this ,ok here it goes my brother in law has decided to sell his 20 dollar 1907 double eagle that he had in a special holder on gold chain that let him wear it as a neck chain but kept actual coin safe from enviroment and is in pretty good condition , i will post pictures sunday night of obverse and reverse , now i looked up this coin and i see that their are diffrent types , of this coin . Any and all information will be appreciated very much and I thank you all ...... also if anyone knows under what title would this be submitted for grading at pcgs , is it considered a rarity ??????
Chances are that once it's mounted on a chain, no matter how hard one mounts it, unless it's mounted on a special way and is NEVER polished, it's as good as a jewellery and perhaps worth a few percentage over bullion value. I am not too sure about the rarity of that year but hopefully someone else can tell you about it.
more info on 1907 walking liberty i will have coin in my possesion later tonight but i am told its a walking liberty and was inside a special case that held the coin and the coin has not been altered one bit ,wether its been cleaned or polished is another question though ,thank you for reply and anyone else who has advice I thank you all for the help
Most references will refer to it as a "Saint Gaudens" (or simply a Saint) named after the sculptor. The mint made two different types of $20s that year - it was the last year of the Liberty Head type and the first year of Saints. 1907 is not a common date, but it's not a real rarity either... but if it has roman numerals it's valuable. Mounting in jewelry usually hurts the value.
People, please stop jumping to conclusions. From the OP's description, I'm guessing that the holder is something like this http://jpscorner.com/images/wm-iloop-qtr.jpg which would not alter the value of the coin at all (at least until it is stolen or dropped). OP, I suggest that with the coin in hand, you go here http://www.coinfacts.com/double_eag...le_eagles/1907_double_eagle_saint_gaudens.htm and read up to determine just what you have. Then it would be easier if you posted more specific questions. As for value, a search on ebay is a quick and dirty way for a quick estimate.
Well thank you each and every one of those who helped me out ,as it turned out it was a 1907 walking liderty and was not completely protected as i was told(in the jewlery casing) so i just excused myself from the whole thing ,just to hard when your dealing with family . But you guys are the best really thanx a million
