I bought a group of 6 ancients and found attributes to 4 of them today - I can't find anything on the last 2 so I'm reaching out to ya'll for some info - even if I can just get the obverse emperor portrait name I can go from there. Here are the 6 coins I got in a lot: They actually look better "in hand" - surprising! the 2 I can't find any info on as follows:
In the stock photos they would be the 3rd and 5th ones from the left! Green (AE 16mm) and desert toned (AE 13mm).
The one on the left apparently reads DIVO CONSTANTINO and the rest I can't read clearly without a loupe. I would guess it is a commemorative of Constantine I, but I'm less familiar with the type than others..... And the remaining example has an AVG listed with a forward facing portrait so it may be any number of LRB's types, including Anthemius, Leo and even Theodosius II, depending on what you can read or compare it to during the 5th century. Have you tried Wildwinds, Vcoins or even acsearch for a guide?? Sorry I can't be of more help....but it's Christmas Eve and I just wanted to give you a hand since the others may be busy with the holidays.
Yeah - I just took a chance tonight as I had a few dollars left from the Christmas budget and decided to buy myself a present!! Thanks again!
I think the first is a constantius I commemorative, and the second is arcadius...but could perhaps be Theodosius ii? I nice mix of LRB markus!
On acsearch I noticed a RIC 42 from Siscia which should put you in the ballpark...The obverse apparently reads PIO PRINCIPI ( After that mentioned above)...and it is Constantius I And the reverse may read: REQVIES OPTIMORVM MERITORVM----Emperor seated on curule chair... Chris just posted and I think he may be right about Arcadius I agree with Chris---VERY nice selection!!!!
Constantine I issued coins for three of his deceased relatives. Yours is for his father Constantius I but they come for Maximianus and Claudius II who he claimed as a distant ancestor. They are listed in RIC under Constantine.
