My friend is telling me that on my metal detecting trip i found some key dates.and some errors.. I think they are making fun of me cause i hope one day to find something valuable. Please let me know... And remember to be nice ...im new to this
Don't quit your day-job. Nothing too significant, but fun. I'm sure you will have more replies. Welcome
Sorry but nothing worth any premiums , and one with MD machine doubling . But hey......don't let your friends discourage you. Or anyone here either . ...... one never knows when you will find something big. I find it very refreshing to see a female your age and passion for something that really interest you. The reason I say this as there's not many collectors that fall into that bracket. Have you ever read anything about Mel Fisher? If you haven't you need to fire your passion and Google his name.....I guarantee you ......that you won't be able to get enough . I actually have some images of him and his crew along with Jimmy Buffet the day that he found "the Atocha "!
I have heard the name before it sounds really familiar but I haven't done any reading into him I think I might take you up on that you Google his name hopefully it is something good that I'll catch my interest and yeah I love coin collected and metal detecting it's pretty helpful though that my father was the chief of the United States Mint in San Francisco on he just recently retired so I'm always questioning him and and trying to get more knowledge on coin collecting
I believe that if you do......you will be very happy you did! Let me know what you think...then I will share some images that will really tweak you to research more.
Here's a image of an 8 reale it sat on the ocean floor for 100 ' s of years. Then it was found this was one of many of the first Spanish cobs found by Mel and company . Not to do a spoiler but his passion did come at a cost he lost both his son and daughter in law......in his quest. But his motto was "today is the day"
Welcome to the fun Bobbie. If you get a chance, please ask your father if he might join us here. We could learn a great deal from him. I don't think the mint allows this but it would be really cool. Your friend is pulling your leg. Hope you find something great. Several of us here love digging for coins.
My dad had to retire due to health reasons ... He worked there his whole life out of the military but because of the cost to live in san francisco he lived in sacramento and commuted to the bay every day which is a hour and a half drive if your lucky one way ... So it has taken its toll on him. But my dad is not the type that would get on a computer and just chat with people . He is kind of a grouch .... Which is understandable given his health right now. But if you have any questions for him a can relay them
