Looking through an org. roll of bank wraped cents today I found this 1979 Cent with a neat 9. Not worth much but still pretty neat.
That is weird I have to say I never seen any thing like that i'm just taking a guess on this one maybe a strike through. The object doesn't appear to be a die chip . The way it looks from the photo the piece looks like it's going through the nine of the date exstending to the seven LOOKS LIKE A FORIEGN OBJECT A PIECE OF THIN METAL You definietly need other opinions on this one WEIRD ONE INDEED TO ME still have to say a strike through. Thanks, It was never cleaned and I would say it is unc as I took it from an origional bank wrapped roll.
It looks raised so it is probably an unusual die chip or gouge. The struck through scenario doesn't fly unless the little mark is impressed into the coin. It also appears possible that the metal was originally a part of the 9. If you look at the upper right part of the loop, it is a little flatter than the rest of the 9. That would indicate that the metal was somehow moved but remained attached to the surface of the coin. Calling this A post strike damage of some sort is possible under those circumstances. Thanks, Bill
