Today I found some coins that someone left in the reject slot of the coinstar. Most were boring modern coins, but one was an 1887 Indian Head cent! It is pretty corroded, but hey, what do you want for free?

    I'll post a scan later.

Good luck. Both machines at the stores I visit regularly always have empty reject slots. I suspect staff in the stores keep their eyes open.

Ive only found money in one of those once, but it was A LOT.
My grandpa and I (about.. geez, 8 years ago) were in Bashas and we saw one, well, in the coin slot there was tons of change. so we scooped MOST of it into a bag.
We counted it up, and we had about 12$ or so. (and we didnt even take all of it)

Same as the one in my local supermarket. An employee told me once that "someone he knew" found a gold coin in the reject slot. Maybe true, maybe not.

I stopped using those machines because they take 9% off the top. I just roll my change as it comes in (this lets me inspect for keepers) and deposit it.

I just found a 1987 Kennedy yesterday in one when I went to put the 5k in Monroes that I had purchased to look for errors back through the system. Found ZILCH in the dollars.

You put $5,000 in dollars into a CoinStar machine? At 8.9% that cost you $445! But you found a half so it only cost you $444.50.

I related your story to my 11 y/o daughter and when we went to our local coinstar today to turn in coins. When we got there, there was a young couple in front of us processing their coins. They were bickering about whether to cash out or to get a gift card. They were processing, talking on their cels and bickering. All of a sudden I get this nudge from my daughter as she hears the first coins hitting the reject slot and she tells me to keep an eye out. They finally get through, I look over at my daughter and she's pratically licking her chops at the chance of hitting that reject bin. They collect their gift card, took one step from the machine and realized that there were coins in the return. Doh! We processed our coins and finished our shopping and on the way out she checks the return one more time to see if anyone missed anything. Next time...
