Found this in pocket change! Goes through the face of Lincoln which I, myself, haven't found much of on the obverse of the shield cents.
I am not familiar with a plating issue such as this, could you help me out and school me please, always learning Ty for the replies all!!!!!
Not sure I can school you much...seein's how I'm still in school myself. But these are copper plated zinc planchets which can exhibit all kinds of plating problems, the more common being bubbles that form under the copper plate, that when pushed will "pop." When you touch or push on the area does the copper layer move? Can you lift or pick at the crack? The dark black line of that area looks like you could lift up the copper plating if you slipped your finger nail or something under the crack... But again, it could just be the pics...that black line could just be shadow on one side of the ridge left from the die crack.
I'm going to take a shot at what it might be - I gave an error description of a similar Die Break not long ago (just can't remember the thread) but this could be what is called a small Bi-Level Die Crack - I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/bi-level_die_cracks_/ Or just a simple a plating issue
Yes, this my thought to, Thank you!!!! Thank you phankins11 for your help as well. The ones you mentioned such as bubbles and there can even be linear bubbles that can be confused by some as breaks or die gouges. I know a bit about those thanks to these guys here and I am still learning ty!!!!!
I think in numismastics the learning is infinite and at some point we are all teachers and students..we listen. We learn.we share..
once again your affluent error knowledge and error-ref.com have made a student out of me. After reading about those bi-level craks I can see that on @Briboy07 's cent. Very cool.
