Neat 1946 Wheat Cent Error

    Looking through some more of my wheaties I found this 1946 reverse error. I think it is rather neat. The coin has

    Either a peeled lamination or a struck through.

    I was thinking maybe it was a faulty planchet when it was struck since the letters are still in the indented area.

    I agree. However, I can't completely eliminate the possibility of post-strike damage.

    I am pretty sure it is a split off lamination.

    It is either a peeiled lamination or struck through but I really can't tell which!

    I agree, but I only had the mint made idea because:
    1) The obverse looks okay.
    2) the letters in the reverse are not damaged within the questionable area.

    I dont think its post..the 'E' is still raised in the crease

    IMHO, since so much of the design elements (in this case, the lettering) are intact, I would have to say that is is a severe lamination separation!

    okay, here's my last guess:
    pre-strike lamination peel.
