When I was in middle/high school, I feverishly collected American coins of all values (but especially the Lincoln Head penny). Now, 20 years later, I estimated the value of my collection (nearly 1400 coins) by looking in RedBook to estimate the value of my collection (for insurance purposes).

My lincoln head penny collection is complete with the exception of the very rare 1922 plain penny. Other than that penny, I have everything else including the 1909 VDB S, 1914-D, and the 1931-S. Individually, all the pennys are estimated to be valued at $1500-$1700. Would the collection be worth more together as a collection or better individually?

In case anybody was curious, the top 5 valued coins that I have are:

    1. 1909 VDB S Lincoln Head Penny
    2. 1991 $5 American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin (won as Best-of-Show prize at Coin Show)
    3. 1914-D Lincoln Head Penny
    4. 1989 $5 American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin (won as Best-of-Show prize at Coin Show)
    5. 1909 S Lincoln Head Penny

Nice work with your collection! What is the condition of the 09 vdb s? It could be worth over $1k if it is F12 or above. The 09-s, 10-s, 11-s, 12-s, 14-d, 24-d, and 31-s will probably bring you another $500 if they are in reasonable condition. The rest would be gravy. If you post these coins, the experts on this site can probably give you a good grade for these key dates.
