This is why I have often put in low ball offers on Heritage auctions. You never know when a coin just gets overlooked and sells for a song. Of course, it hasn't happend for me yet.
I do the samething Marshall. No luck yet either. I know there have been a couple of zero eye appeal coins that I put in low ball bids hoping to win - still lost. Also some of my low ball bids have been up to 10k. I think this time I have bid on 7 or 8 different coins that I did not really want, but if I won them at my price I would be happy. I know there was an 1864 SM two center that was really cheap the last couple of days in the auction. Easily a 2k+ coin I bid 1.5k and the surrent bidder went from like 100 to 1600 in the blink of an eye. It did still go for a good amount. It is fun to start out winning a bunch of graded bust halves bidding like $40.
