I am disappointed about the lack of Native Americans portrayed on the US Commemorative Quarters issued so far. Hopefully, a few will be shown on the coins not-yet issued, but it doesn't look promising.

My understanding was that one of the coin designs for the Nebraska quarter had Chief Ponca on it. But it wasn't chosen.

There's a chance that Oklahoma's quarter might represent a Native American.

I'm on-board with you on this one, Myron

I think it's a shame that NO state has chosen to depict an original american.
There has been very little wildlife depicted thus far also, just a few birds & some bison coming up.

But mostly it seems to be man glorifing himself.

    Myron,

You have a good point. But to me the whole series is somewhat lacking.

Indiana was pushed very hard to have a Native American on their quarter and that pushed provided many of us with a little history as most of the people in the state had never heard of this chief or the role he played in state history. Well, in the end, big money and politics won out and we will forever be known as the Race Car state. Mint rules prohibits sports or private business or private organizations from being on the quarter so I can't help but wonder how this "error" managed to slip through the cracks.
