I wouldn't except I am becoming more and more enthralled with Nationals and I shouldn't be. But you have to love those hometown notes and I can fathom spending $95 as opposed to $500+ for the Haxby Obsolete volumes.
He's actually got an early bird special going right now. $75 shipped. I wonder how much better the Haxby volumes are?
Haxby is outdated, seriously. And I should avoid obsoletes, but they are sucking me in like a bad habit. With Nationals I have quite a few large sized, and only a couple of small sized.
Me too. They're just too nice. I think they're one of the best kept secrets around. It's amazing how few are for sale on ebay most days. Heritage doesn't usually have many for sale either. Don's website is outstanding though.
Actually I have picked up a few from Heritage lately, sometimes at ridiculous prices, like $30 for an Unc note. Of course you have figured out why I collect them, for the feminine vignettes, and there were many many many. I have to limit myself to the most significant examples like the "Morning" on the Desoto NE $3, which I cannot image here because Theodore Cleever would blush.
i am also looking to get into a few nationals i am looking for a specific bank in a specific town ect lol i have only seen 1 example, a $5 note, which was for sale for close to $5,000 - way out of my range I figure i might be able to pick up a VG from this bank for $300 or less... i hope lol I might pick up the kelly book just to see what notes are issued from this bank and how many are thought to be out....
I am lucky that that specific town, a town in Missouri, I have been able to locate a large sized, and the best known small sized National from there. It is a town with 29 reported notes though from one issuing bank.
I was born in Mass, and later moved to Michigan. I never thought untill recently to look for my home town where i was born to see if there were nationals from there. My collecting budget mostly keeps me from looking as well... But if i can find a note from Attleboro, and the price is right... i will take a real hard statb at it lol there are atlot of cities with the boro in the name... North attleboro, south attleboro, brattleboro ect. the bank i was looking for, and hoping to find, was the charter number 2232 from a bank in the main city of attleboro. Ive checked Ebay, Don Kellys website, heriatge ect. just the lone note for thousands in a nice high graqde lol but out of my price range... WAAAAY out
