Well, I am pretty sure I got a bargain on this beauty, but what do you guys think about getting it graded. Estimate on grade? VAM? I have reason to get some outside opinions on this one. The pictures are scans so they show detail sufficiently but the luster is far better than it appears.

pictures are a little too small to completely diagnose a VAM.given it is an O mint mark, you say very lustrous.I would estimate it at about a MS60-62 grade. There is no real evidence of wear but the photo is small.it does look like it has slight friction from a BAG,as the hairline and the chest. But being a O mm and small photo thats my guess.

Hi Dayriser, Appears to be AU, IMO. Not enough of value to pay for grading. For VAMS, try this site, as it is easier to do in hand than by photos.

O mint marks are very weakly struck, the majority of them do not even have breast feathers on the eagle reverse.Scans are a tough picture to determine grades with.

VAM grading Im no good at, but working on it.

Looks to be MS-60, I'm giving credit that when I opened the reverse image I can see the breast feathers as weak as they are.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am sending off today to be graded based on the condition, but also, it is clearly an oval o mintmark, so that would make it a vam-2 or 2a yes?

And the pictures are really large, and blow up fine for me when I click on them?.. Is that not the case for you guys too?

I don't think it is either a 2 or 2A. The date placement isn't the same. The base of the "1" on yours lines up with the right edge of the 3rd denticle, and the plate photo for the VAM-2 shows the base of the "1" lining up with the left edge of the 4th denticle.

So, if you are submitting this thinking you will get a "Top 100" coin in AU, you'd better be 100% positive before you spend the money.

Thanks for the response chris. I looked at vamworld.com before I ever made this post. In fact, I have been learning all kinds of new stuff about morgans since I just picked up a pretty hefty collection of them. I am definitely a rookie at vam's to be sure, but I am a little confused. On vamworld, they only list 2 vam's with the oval o that I can find -- 2 and 2a. What am I missing?

If its MS and its a top100 for sure,it "Might" be worth slabbing.Although some top100's are considered "cool varieties" and "rarities" not all of them are worth anything special yet. Some the prices are up and way up,and some are actually very common. So if you have 50$ in it,you might not get $50 out of it,if you have to sell it for some reason.just food for thought.

Well, I stared and stared and stared at that thing and I just can make out if the O is oval or if only the slot is oval (making it likely to come back as a 16 instead of a two). But I have very little invested at this point, so we shall see in a month or so when it comes back.
