I am looking to purchase a really good book on Kennedy Halves. I would like to have one that shows pictures of the different varieties and explains what to look for in the Kennedy's. Would someone please recommend a title they have used? I have the new Red Book but it does not have the detail I need as a learner.

    Thank you, Jim

I've never seen a coin book of any kind devoted to one coin especially such a recently produced coin. You could probably get all the information you need right here on CT. Even the inside of the coin folder would pretty much have the lion's share of information on these coins. Things like varieties and such can be learned by asking the knowledgable folks in this forum. I have three completes sets of Kennedy half doolars and I learned plenty putting them together. Looking back, that was half the fun of collecting them. Post your questions and the folks here will be happy to answer them.

I guess you haven't looked very hard.

Scroll to the bottom of this page of half dollar reference books for the description of a Kennedy book. :D

Jim - I don't collect Kennedies and I've never looked at the book, so I am not recommending it as a good reference book - only telling you that it exists.:smile

    Kennedy Half Dollar Book

    by James Wiles, PHD.

The first book on the series, this effort by Dr. Wiles contains

over 310 pages of valuable information. With over 1200 high-quality photographs,

identification of the known varieties is easy. This is an absolute must for the series

or the variety collector. The 8-1/2 x 11 page size book is available spiral bound.

    Thanks Charlie32

That is exactly what I am looking for. A book someone on our list has purchased/used, and found to be a good book for learning about the coins. Thank you very much, Jim

You are correct. I never thought someone could devote an entire book to a coin that was only first minted in 1964. And 313 pages no less. It must cover a lot of variety information. I don't collect varieties so a book like that wouldn't be of much value to me and it looks like it only goes through 1997. That leaves out about 9 years worth of coins that wouldn't be covered. I wouldn't buy it myself.

I've seen "Treasure Hunting..." by Flynn and Wexler recommended in the past although I don't own a copy myself.
