n value in coin grading?

    I have seen two values on some coin a N value and R value, I know what R is but what is N value? I tried different searches but could not find an answer.

    R is Rarity, and I think he might be thinking of Newcomb numbers for copper varieties.

    That's what I considered about the "R" value but without naming a specific issue I had no real idea what the OP meant by "N" value.
