Is this a Persian coin? Sasanian? I have no clue. At least, it's not Roman for sure. Material: Bronze Obverse: ??? Reverse: ??? Diameter: 14 x 15mm, irregular I wonder how this ended up in a mixed lot of Roman coins from Yugoslavia. Which then begs the question - how often, if at all, were non-Roman coins used in the Roman empire? In more modern times, there are several instances of foreign coins being used in everyday commerce. America used Spanish Reales, US Trade Dollars were used in the East, and around two dozen countries currently use USD either in lieu, or in spite of their own national currency. Barbaric imitations were often used in the outskirts of the Empire. Although they were not official issues, they did attempt to ape the official designs, with varying degrees of success. But were straight up NON Roman coins accepted at the local market?
Some sort of Celtic or local imitation would be my guess. Just not getting any Persian/etc. vibe from it.
