It's just a popout metal slug from something, and was never a coin blank. You can tell by the little dimple there at 7:00.

A byproduct of the manufacturing of something that had holes in it.

From the broken tab on the edge, my guess is one of these punchouts:

Exactly. I wasn't sure of the exact terminology, but that illustration is perfect.

Make friends with an electrician, and you can get all you want of those.

I do see why you would think that, to be fair.

Nahh, don't feel bad- I've seen those lying on the ground, all nice n' shiny like, and gone for 'em, thinking I'd just found a quarter. ;)

First.. Threads cannot be deleted. It's on here forever!
Second.. Don't feel the way you do. You're learning and that's good.
It would be worse if you said that we are all wrong and that we don't know what we are talking about.
Some newbies actually say those things to us.

Some of us can delete threads. ;)

Not that there's any grounds for that here.

I got a bit confused on one of these way back. Some come with the makers name stamped on them.

Going back to the original post, I am not so sure it is a plug. I see what appears to be a rim, which I've never seen on plugs before. It looks slightly dished, which the photos don't really show well. Some edge and rim shots might provide a better assessment. The corrosion or whatever the discolored area is, would tend to indicate the piece was plated, which lends itself to a plug, but I'm just not convinced at this point.

Maybe now you have found a collector interested in them? Wonder how many you could mail in a flat rate box?
