Hello, I am not a coin collector, and know next to nothing about numismatics, so when my friend recently stumbled upon this coin, a quick Wikipedia search showed that this website would probably the best place to ask. China has been suggested for this coin's origin, of course, but any more specific information anyone might have would be very much appreciated. The image is somewhat large: Mystery Coin, Front and Back Thank you for your time and effort!
Greetings and Welcome to the list. Your coin appears to be a Chinese "Cash coin. I'm not an expert but I happen to have one like it in much worse condition. Take Care Bone
- china qing dynasty cash coin - emperor guangxu - coin obverse: guangxu tong bao - coin reverse: boo guwang - guangdong province - circa 1875-1908 - most common variety.
Kuang H'su is the western romanization of the emperor chinese name. Guangxu (or Guang Xu or Guang-xu) is the correct hanyu pinyin romanization of the chinese characters.
Sterling, you will actually find that the Wade-Giles romanisation of the Chinese Emperors' names are much more common.Wade-Giles spelling is what is used in Taiwan. They wouldn't know what Pinyin is. Aidan.
