So I have been coin roll hunting pennies getting about 10 rolls a day. So finally I decide to order a box of them. The bank got their order today and every box was complete rolls of new coins :arghh:. So sad considering I have a wait until next Friday until the order comes again. Any ways to avoid this or is it pretty much luck of the draw??

Luck of the draw. I do/did about $200 cents a week and sometimes ended up with box upon box of brand new stuff. ugh

Luck of the draw, I just put them away for a while and see if any varieties emerge. You will get the same turning them in now or later. Good Karma will reward you eventually.

It is so depressing! I was waiting all week, but this whole hobby endures much patience so it was too be expected. Hopefully next weeks order will yield me 1955 DDO ;)

LOL. Same thing just happened to me, except I only asked for 4 rolls. So I guess you got it worse. I feel your pain though.

    Try unwrapping 8 boxes....Then I'll have sympathy ;)

You might be surprised at what could turn up in those 2,500 pennies. Doubled die discovery coin? 100 or more of the same clash?

I found 228 of the same clash when I searched a 5,000-coin Mint bag.

I can only imagine. Perhaps someday I will since I do want to buy boxes in the future.

I'm guessing you were in the same predicament as I am now. Should I unwrap them even though I'm 99.9% certain they are all 2015? I don't want to unwrap them only to have to rewrap them all. I wasn't going to but I just can't turn them in without checking. It would nag me for a long time not knowing what was in there. Maybe there's a 1909-S VDB in between all those shiny ones. Only one way to find out.

I would love to have this happen to me once in awhile. I yearn for new issue errors and would love not to have to pay a premium to get rolls or boxes of new coins.

Good point. I would say more collectors want BU rolls of new coins over circulated rolls of older coins. From a historical perspective, you are ALWAYS better off saving BU new rolls over circulated coins, (ignoring obvious things like rare dates, silver/non-silver, etc). I actually had a friend I made fun of who put away a couple of boxes of BU coins a year. I didn't laugh after 1982/1983 happened.

So very true. Considering what we do pay towards our hobby, setting aside a few boxes of cents at $25.00 each is not a bad investment considering you end up getting pretty much nothing on interest if kept in the bank.

So maybe this could be blessing in disguise. I am just going to put these boxes away and see what happens.
I appreciate the quick responses and advice! Thank you all.

Same boat. Stopped at my local BoA branch this afternoon to pick up a box and ended up with a Mint fresh brick of 2015 dated cents. Guess they have to get them into circulation somehow. :)

Hadn't really considered just holding on to the box before someone up thread mentioned it, but maybe I'll do that. It'll definitely cut down on next week's coin searching time so hopefully it'll be warm enough to get some yard work done. Meanwhile, I'll pick up nickels tomorrow so hope springs eternal.

    OP,

Nothing wrong with a brick of new cents. Look at Chris' post again.
I picked up a box last week and solid 2015's. Opened 15 rolls & ended up with three full rolls of three different reverse die cracks. The one "completed" rewrapped roll was a very nice, major die crack.
Kept the rest of the rolls sealed and tucked away knowing that there are rolls still in there with a major die crack.

    Cheers

Mine are all 2014-D but are still beautiful coins. Going to hold onto the box for a while see if I can't find something to do with them. I'll probably get a couple but otherwise I have 25 dollars! :shame:

Did you find the die cracks on the enders or did you have to open the roll? I haven't ripped them open yet, should I?

Open up 10 to 20 rolls of the box (pick the tail/tail rolls) & see what the sampling is. You will get a good idea if worth keeping them or not.
What if you have 2 or 3 rolls of cuds in there. It does happen. Happened to me with a box of 2014 P cents.

A few were enders but most were not. Didn't even know till I opened the rolls. Just do a sampling of rolls & see what is there.

What if you have rolls of die clashes in there & you would never know if you don't look at least some of the rolls.
