Hi, as many here know, I collect Icelandic coins. There aren't nearly as many silver coins available in the Icelandic coins are there are in US and many other countries. What I started doing was buying AT LEAST one oz of silver from whatever county at every show I attend. It can be junk silver or a modern proof it doesn't matter to me. Does anyone else do this or am I the only nut out there. What I am curious about do you have any "show rules"? If so what are they, I would like to hear about them!!!! Thanks in advance! Mark
Cool idea to have a "rule" actually. I frequently go to local shows and leave empty handed. The last one I bought an AU bust half, (I probably have 8 of that date already), since I didn't want to leave empty handed. I am always torn between forcing myself to buy something, or telling myself its silly to buy something just for the sake of buying if I am not actively collecting them. Unfortunately, the upper midwest is not a hotbed of ancient coin collecting activity, and even world coins are scarce as hens teeth frequently. If I want to buy something, I usually default to my old collections of bust and SL halves in XF-AU.
r That was one of the reasons I started doing this. Many times there are no Icelandic coins worth buying. I don't like leaving a show empty handed either. So I figured I'll just buy a peice of silver. It doesn't have to be expensive but it must be at least one ounce, (usually is more LOL) By doing this I can at least add to my silver collection. Even if I have picked up some Iceland coins, the 1oz rule still applies. Thanks For the Reply!
I didn't know you had that "rule" Mark, but it's a good idea. I probably couldn't leave a show without buying something either, but as you know I have interests in so many oddball things (substitute "junk" for "oddball") that there's always plenty of stuff for me to bring home. Sometimes I think the exonumia guys show up at these things just because they know I'll be there. I walk in and the stuff under their tables comes out, most of it still stapled in 25 year old 2x2's...and priced at 4 cents. Oh well, somebody's got to sweep the floors after the fat lady sings, so why not me. Bruce
