To those members who complained about my signature; it has been deleted. I must say that I think you have overreacted. My signature was not inappropriate for a "family board". While there was some profanity contained therein, it was always bleeped with characters (ie !@#$$%). I understand that this is a privately owned board and that I must comply with all of the rules and regulations, and that is why I have removed my signature line. I just want to let you folks know that I use that same signature line on other websites, including some Christian oriented sites, and no one but you have ever had a problem with it.

Have you thought about having something in relation to numismatics, such as a link to a forum,a blog,or a wiki in your signature line?

Yes, I did. But, when it comes to signatures I appreciate cool and interesting quotes. And how often does anybody hear anyone say anything numismatically cool and or interesting?

well, that signature was inapropiate for a coin forum. and that was not a very intersting quote. even is you did use $%%&%^, its still a cuss word. think of all the young collectors on this board. if they see your siganture and see that it is ok to cuss like that, they will think it is ok, and pretty soon alot of peole will have inapropiate signatures. it even says in the rules nothing that was said in a 1950's tv show isn't to be said here either. ;)

Those weren't even my words. I was merely quoting a couple of famous Hollywood actors. Gimme a break. Do you really think that in the United States in 2007 your kids don't hear worse stuff in school and on television than that. Don't get me wrong, I'm as idealistic as the next person and would love to live in a society free from profanity, pornography, violence, and every other social ill you can think of. But until the human race attains that degree of civilization I think I will continue to live in a more realistic world.

Let me guess; you're the guy that turned me in. Figures as there is always one person in the bunch that has to make a stink about the smallest thing.

I don't even know what your sig said but just because our kids are exposed to it elswhere doesn't mean that we have to condone it by not reacting when it is used around us. I is not a matter of society attaining that degree of civilization but rather RE-gaining it. When I was a child (not all that long ago) I didn't hear profanity anywhere near as much as I do now. It wasn't because it wasn't used but rather that people had the decency not to use it around young ears. If some one doesn't "make a stink about the smallest thing" it eventually becomes accepted and the next thing up the ladder becomest the "littlest thing" untill you reach the point wher 8 year old kid are swearing at their parents without fear of being disciplined.

Just my thought on the matter

first off, i'm only 14, and dont have any kids. yes i do hear some bad stuff at school, but they get in trouble by the teachers. and when i'm watching tv, they bleep it out. if you would like to live in a world without profanity, why did you even put the signature there? yes, i am the one that turned you in, and i am not trying to stink things up!

Perhaps, but if the words are censured with !@#$%^ then it isn't actually profane now is it? Even TV and radio are permitted to bleep out cusswords rather than be forced to remove the line altogether which would perhaps destroy the artists intended contextual meaning.

You're 14? Jeesh, does your mom know you're on the computer? :D

That actuall proves my point. There was a time that you wouldn't hear any reference to profanity on the airwaves. Then it was decided that if we bleep it out then thasts ok. Now you have some ofthe more "foreward thinking" stations allowing the profanity and facing the consequences because it brings in the type listeners they want. At the rate we are going there won't be any bleepinng out the profanity within the next 10-15 years.
When a tv program blurs out a celebrity giving the finger people still know what happened and what was meant...including the children. This is just another example of the erosion of our society.

Doesn`t Matter...... Point is, this is not the place for schoolyard and HBO style street talk..

If you had seen my quote before it was deleted you would know that only someone who was old enough to have seen the film would even understand its meaning. And if these kids are that innocent than how is it they even know what !@#$ means? BTW, I'm not trying to be nasty or corrupt children with this topic. I just think it is something worth discussing. If I type these characters !@#$ is it profane?

    ziggy9 *NEC SPERNO NEC TIMEO*

It is not !@#$% that is in itself profane but rather the word that it is symbolizing. When reading a sentence if one comes upon !@#$% one can usually tell from the content of the sentance what the word is that is being replaced. By using !@#$% we are sending the message to our children that it is OK to swear, just don't let the "kiddies" hear it! Once again condoning the action in certain instances and coming across to our children as hypocritical.

Gopher, this is an entirely unnecessary thread. The mods removed your sig line because they deemed it innappropriate and that is that. Put something decent in there and move on with your life!

And I say bravo to coinlover for reporting it. I never saw it but I'm guessing I'd have done the same thing.
BTW, I am only 16. This is a family type forum, and there are plenty of kids that use the forum every day. If you don't like that, go somewhere else.
