My Set of Series 1934- 1934 D $5 Silver Certs.... Hi Guy's Just thought while I was posting the latest notes, I would also add the set of Series 1934 $5 Silver Certs. All are Gem except for 1 CHCU, do you know wich one it is? Hope you enjoy the notes...now to start working on the stars... RickieB
Nooost... Are you talking about the small line at the bottom of the note? That is an alignment mark on the paper...not so much of a distraction. RickieB
This is tough! Without the notes in hand, its tough to make a grade choice between Gem and ChCU with a scan (thats my out and im sticking to it lol) Im going with the '34B, there looks to be some real slight smudging to the top center.
Yes, that's what I was talking about. I don't understand alignment mark. Could you please explain and explain how it doesn't lower grade? Thanks Good job Daggarjon
That was my guess too! Read down a little as I am writing this post and see that I would have been correct also Nice notes - almost picked one up the other day in a coin shop - went back to that case 3 times before I had to force myself to leave with the two things I had already picked out.
sweet notes. gotta love those silver certificates. its funny i took a small break from the chicago collection a little while ago. i dont want to hijack the thread but here are the ones i picked up alas mine are not all CH CU but close **WIDE** **NARROW**
I bought these a while ago..just never really posted them or added them cuz they are not part of the NY collection. I have many notes outside of the NY collection I have not posted...ughhh the scanning and resizing work!!! I just love the blue seals... RickieB
yeah i understand that. i dont mind the scanning i guess. i do ebay auctions for a friend so i am scanning pictures all the time. i know between my chicago collection and my other currency world/us collection is well over 500 notes. i know on the world currency i have both front and backs scanned:rolling: i guess the notes make me so happy i like to share with others on my banknote sites and here on CT. you keep posting your beauties and i will do the same. even though we arent even in the same leagues when it comes to collections:hail::hail::hail: one of these days maybe
It doesn't lower the grade because it's supposed to be there--it's part of the original engraving in the printing plate. I don't have an image of a full 12-subject sheet handy (link, anyone?), but the marks are there to ensure the sheet is properly aligned when it goes through the cutting operation. There are a couple of horizontal marks at the midline of the sheet (so one's between the C and D position notes, and the other's between I and J), and there's also a vertical mark positioned dead center (so pieces of it might end up showing on the C, D, I and/or J notes). At various other times the marks have been located somewhat differently (e.g., I've seen a few 1929 notes with a T-shaped mark rather than just the lines) and of course on the 18- and 32-subject sheets they're entirely different. On modern notes they're located far enough out in the sheet margins that you don't see them often on the finished notes, but occasionally they do turn up when a margin is cut wide; it seems to me that I see them more often on backs than on faces, a small green mark at a far corner.
Noost.... Numbers is right...he beat me back to the thread! At one time when I did not know what they were, I would skip over a note thinking it was a bad thing. A dealer friend explained it to me several years ago. I still look for notes that do not show it as much but if I need a note and it is there, well it's ok! Thats why I said not much of a distraction...if ya get my drift! RickieB
