Now that I've completed my type set as much as I probably ever will be able, I'm doing a some upgrades. My first upgrade was my 1862 IHC (no pics at the moment.) Today I just got my upgrade to my 1859 IHC. I've also go a new camera (actually it's my wife's) so I've got some technique problems while I'm learning. In this case the color should be a bit redder and I think I've suppressed the surface relief a bit. My camera techniques are a work in progress. But here it is:
Real nice , I've been looking for a MS trouble free '59 like yours for a while now , so far in my price range of around $500 all I've seen are weakly struck or problem coins , yours is a beauty . rzage
I didn't tell you the grade. It's a PCGS MS-64. The dealer I got it from called it PQ, and he's one of the top small cent dealers. Frankly I think my pictures made it look a bit "flatter" than it really is, both in relief and mint shine.
Maybe the reverse looks flatter, but the obverse pictures shows me a very nice coin. That is one nice upgrade.
Wow the jump from where I am looking MS-63 to MS-64 is around $1000 . hope I can find a nice PQ 63 1/2 as nice as yours . Exspecially if yours is redder in hand . rzage
Don't forget. The small cents from 1856 into 1864 are copper-nickel, not bronze. They will never have the redness of a bronze coin. That's why they are never given the attribute RD or RB or BN.
I know that as I have a MS 1864 , was going by your post saying it looked a little redder in hand , it's amasing all the different colors I've come across looking for a nice '59 , yours is one nice coin . rzage
