Oddly enough, Ed Trompeter sought to assemble the finest collection of US gold coins. In that, he competed against Harry Bass, though apparently they never met face-to-face, not even at the Eliasberg Auction. Though an international sales engineer in military electronics, Trompeter was still given to quaint Yiddish colloquialisms. He would have called this coin "shmutzi" -- dirty.

Myself, I think that toning can be attractive.

What do you think about the coin?
it's not crazily "monster" toned but does it
have eye appeal? After all beauty is in the eye
    of the beholder

Amigo mio, it's not what I think. It's all about what you think. :)

Neat coin and not a common toning pattern for Morgans, in my experience! Congrats.

Very unique toning. I love it. Glad you were able to acquire something like that for less than 100 bucks.
