......hey, that rhymed! Anyways, I take coins there to get mailed via "Registered Mail" and they pretty much refuse to do it. The one guy literally blows a gasket, puts his hands on his face, gets red. Tells me to go buy my own tape and cover all the seams on the box from now on. The guy today plainly told me "its a pain in the butt." I told him its cheaper to register it with insuirance, he says no its not, when I know it is. So it cost me $19 to mail it with $1200 insurance. I think its time to find a friendlier Post Office.
I think a chat with the Supvervisor of Mails or the Postmaster will force some changes. The folks in my local Post Office are the nicest and most cooperative postal folks I've ever dealth with.
I always go to the domestic calculator at the Postal Service website and calculate my total postage and fees including all special services before I go to the post office. I also prepare all the necessary forms, and if a clerk jerks me around (as they sometimes do) I ask to see his/her supervisor who invariably admits that the website information is 100% correct.
Yep we too have the geniuses working for the PO over this side of the pond, I have had them tell me that I cant send things in a certain way or that they dont exist but the best to date is a clerk who tried convincing me that a diffinative stamp was a commerative and got very upset when I asked her what it commemorated LOL (I have collected stamps for about 40 years :smile ) or the Post office that dont like to issue stamps cus they fall off envelopes LOL De Orc :headbang:
Absolutely the same thing here. They greet every customer with a smile, help those that need help, speak in the OTHER American language and lots of other things. Best be carefull. Remember a few years ago when postal workers were rampaging with guns? I've been nice to them ever since.
:secret: I put many years in the Post Office just recently got an early retirement. I started as a carrier and did some supervisor work and also worked in the District Admin at the end. If you really want to get there attention call Cutomer Services at the district level (The main mail Postal Sectional Center in your area) i.e. here in South Jersey or Delaware it’s Bellmawr NJ. This is the one thing your local Postmaster will not want to see is an inquiry from CS. This is the best way to complain about a Postal window clerk. Believe me some of the clerks are great and some are jerks:rolling: Registered Mail Registered Mail provides maximum protection and security for valuables. It provides the sender with mailing receipt and a delivery record is maintained by the USPS. A record of mailing is maintained at the mailing post office. Registered Mail is available for items paid at Priority Mail and First-Class Mail rates. Postal insurance is provided for articles with a declared value up to a maximum of $25,000. Only items with no declared value may use registry service without insurance. Handling charges apply for articles valued over $25,000. Registered Mail must be presented to a retail employee at a Post Office or a rural route. http://www.usps.com/common/welcome.htm?from=global&page=0001home2
Philly Dog. Can you get all that with" global priority mail" also I am going to be doing a lot of that soon ? Bruce.
The Postal Clerks here in my town are very friendly and are getting to know me by name. Every time I go to the P.O. now they say "here comes the money order man"! They couldnt be more helpful. Although if it were me having the issue you are having I would certainly take it further up the ladder and let my concerns be known very bluntly. Of course, thats just me, I'm a very outspoken person and dont take very kindly of someone trying to BS me.
Nick, you mentioned them telling you to "tape all the seams in the box". One exception I would make to your comments is that USPS employees are no longer allowed to use their own tape to tap up boxes that they think are not suitable for mailing. And that's their judgement call. You will be directed to their supplies counter to purchase your own tape. I've seen that policy enforced pretty consistently in any number of post offices here and around the country. It doesn't excuse their behavior, of course, but just FYI. The only exception is Priority Mail, they do have specially marked tape for that.
I agree that ou should talk with a supervizor or something. There is no excuse for behavior like that. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck. Phoenix
I think it's easier to try a different post office than to try to change their behavior. We have three post offices fairly close by and one is definitely superior to the other two.
Yeah, good point. From now on when I need to ship off anything it especially coins it will be to the Post Office I have to drive to. What sucks is it only takes me a minute to walk to the one in my town. To everybody else thank you for your advice. If I can find a phone number to call, I certainly will. I'll have to look in my phone book. Thanks again!
