My Indian cent collection is pretty complete and I'm quite happy with it, but once in a while a prettier or more interesting or better quality Indian cent comes along that I just can't resist and then I have to choose between the one I already have or the potential new one that may have different characteristics. I try to be strict about keeping only one of each date and/or the specific characteristic I look for: colorful toning, neat error, and/or bold variety (otherwise, it would be very hard to be a dealer! So when I saw this beautifully toned higher grade 1878, it "WOWED" me and I knew it would fit better in my collection than my old 1878. And thanks to Chris at Key Largo Coins, I was able to add it to my collection. My old 1878 is also very pretty and has a lot of pizzazz and I really like its eye appeal, but it doesn't have one of the three criteria I mentioned above. I know and understand that many copper collectors would prefer the usual red or red brown toning and some of you would have kept the old 1878, but I love the uniqueness of colorful toning, and am very happy to add this new 1878 to my collection, and just had to share it with you!
Charmy, you have shown more than one like this and they are amazing each time I see one! Congrats!!!!
Beautiful coin! Let this be a lesson to those of you with blue cents colored with MS70. This is how a REAL blue toned cent should look.
I like both. I was a little surprised your old one was only red/brown. Maybe because the little brown is on the obverse, but that is borderline red to me. To me, given the same grade, I would choose the second, but that is just me.
Fantastic Indian Charmy! I love it. Speaking of blue Indians, thanks for selling me this bluish Indian from your inventory back in May. Your new one has more blue than this one. (Keep finding these gems for us to buy from you.)
