Today, I bought this coin with my local dealer for 50 eur. Please your opinion about value and authenticity of this Vespasian denarius: VESPASIAN (69-79). Denarius. Rome. Obv: IMP CAES VESP AVG P M COS IIII. Laureate head right. Rev: VESTA. Vesta standing left, holding simpulum and sceptre.
It looks authentic to me. The references are: Vespasian Denarius, RIC 360, (RIC [1962] 50), RSC 574, BMC 71. My guess for value would be between $50 and $75 when considering the condition.
I'm not much of a Vespasian expert but it looks ok to me. This is my one and only Vespasian so far. It's a budget example. Vespasian, AD 1 Jul 69-24 Jun 79 AR, Denarius, 3.09g, 18mm; 6h; Rome, Jan-Jun AD 70 Obv.: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; laureate head right Rev.: COS ITER TR POT; Pax seated left on chair without back, branch in right hand, caduceus in left
Nice Vespasian gogili1977! I'm planning to add a couple of new—ancient Vespasians to my collection also. I have three that are similar to yours.
gogili => I like your new OP-Vespasian (I suck at spotting fakes, but your new coin doesn't creep me out, so good luck) I only have one Vespasian example ... wanna see it?
i have a 76 with the eagle reverse, but its a Titus and here's my Vespasians(top might Titus too, but the denarius are vespasian for sure...i think)
