Got this mainly because the price was below fmv I believe (paid $176 total and I can probably get around $300 for it if I were to sell). I wanted an old ana label anacs slab and this one worked for the price. About 5 minutes after I ripped open the box I had it pegged as vam 2. I'm pretty happy with it (although I can see it in a 62 slab) and the color photgraphs well while looking juat as good in hand. I believe we even have a member here with an 83o vam2 avatar Any in depth info about this vam is appriciated and is this the very first actual slab? GC Pics My Very Quick Pics
WOW! Awesome find! I'm a newish Vammer and I love this kind of stuff. I'm looking it up after I post.....about 6 months ago, I bought a 1900 O for about $25 off eBay, got the coin and noticed a couple horns sticking out the side of the O. Done some checking and asking around. (CONECA) Turns out it's a VAM8A O/CC....had it graded (MS64 ANACS).....I was hooked/addicted after that.... Since my addiction started I've acquired another 1900 O/CC for $19 off eBay, this one turned out to be a VAM 8B (XF45 ANACS)....COOLIO!
Oh and btw @JAY-AR, my estimate of $300 is due to the slab, grade & color. I don't think this vam adds much value other than cool factor to a vammer that's wanting one
I totally understand, all of it's really cool to me, I'm in it for the thrill of the hunt! Oh, and thanks for the welcome!
Thankfully, I've been able to stay un-Vorg'ed (a word?). I started to get assimilated and was distracted by other areas of numismatics.
This coin proves that the hangup on grade and holder are meaningless sometimes. It is a totally gorgeous coin, and was an incredible bargain. I think it would sell for closer to $400, not $300, IMHO. it also redefines the "baggy Morgans are ugly" theory. Some of them are breathtaking, like this one.
Very attractive coin for the grade. I can't tell if the mirrors are at today's DMPL standards (my gut tells me PL), because those standards are currently rather high. There's no premium on the VAM, but the toning is nice and more importantly it seems stable in the holder. Old ANACS holders often tone coins on their own.
Very nice coin, with attractive toning. I don't know anything about the VAM, but I do know PL: based on those pictures, the DMPL designation is highly optimistic. It looks 63, but I think it would only be a PL by today's standards (and hence, why you got it at a lower price - a 63PL lists for $130.) With the toning and Vam premium, you paid a fair price for it, but I wouldn't expect to resell it for much higher.
I agree with you guys that it will probably only make PL if I cracked it on a resub but I really bought it for the beauty and the old ana labeled anacs slab. I'm really starting to like these tiny travel soap holders. So much so that I'll be on the lookout for them specifically from now on. Especially toners Physics, I have to disagree with your assessment. I know I can pull about double what I paid on this one if I were to sell
This is a $200 coin in PCGS MS63DMPL, not only one of the most common Morgan DMPLs but also a common toner. No disrespect, but good luck with that. This didn't even make $300: http://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-doll...-23944.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
Yeah, I like this one a ton better and it deserves a toning premium, but to my mind $300 is just a bit much.
I think $300 is a safe top end as the slab should play a small roll too. Might have to wait a minute but I think it's definitely achievable. Morgandude's estimation of $400 I think is a bit much but if he's willing to shell it out others might too. It's all moot though as I probably won't sell it anytime soon We don't disagree that often dave
