My newest additions to my Poor Mans SLQ set. I bought an ANACS slabbed 23 S graded VF20 for $800,,,which is bid price on the grey sheet. I probably overpaid for the 24D at $225,,,but it was the only one not slabbed as I'm trying to fill my Dansco 7132 folder. The 1919 I paid $60 and the 1923 was $50,,,and again I think I overpaid. 4 coins,,,4 different dealers so I couldn't bundle and TRY to get a better price. I'd appreciate every ones feedback, grade, and what you would value them at. Thanks.
I like the 24 D. Very nice! Good pickups for fair prices imo. Nicely done. Now that you have the 23 S; you are no longer allowed to refer to your SLQs as "a poor man's set" Now all you need is that elusive 1916 right? Here's one for you... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1916-Standi...75?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2c6d110f9b
Race,,,,that's one hole that most likely never will be filled. I've got some other spots though that will keep me searching for a while,,,,like the 19-D and 19-S. I could not find either one of those at this show,,,,in any grade.
I agree... that '24-D is a beauty. Good luck in completing your set, and don't forget the elusive '31-S. Here's mine:
Those are tough dates. I overpaid for my 19 D in XF. But it's that craving to fill holes that keeps the coin dealers in business. Good luck in your search!
Yeah,,,it started out as a heavily circulated G to F set I was gonna put together,,,but we all know how crappy those coins look. So I bumped it up to at least VF condition with nice eye appeal. Before yesterday the most I had ever paid for a coin was $150,,,I saved for a long time knowing how much I would have to spend on a 23-S.
Yeah, the 23 S was my last hole to fill. Here's mine. She's F15 in a PCGS slab. Might have been bumped up to VF 20 but for the fact that the date is pretty worn. The rest of my set is in VF XF I really enjoyed collecting circulated SLQs. They are a very challenging series to collect. I love the classic art deco design and they are hard to find in grades above F since they circulated so heavily. I filled the 1916 hole with a replica...for now. Good luck finishing out your set, patience is the key with this series.
I've tried to do them a couple of times, but the condition I end up chasing is just soooo much money. I've had to be satisfied with the two for my 7070 album.
I know next to nothing about the series but the design is one of my favorites. The reverse of that 24 D is gorgeous!
