Just wanted to introduce my new avatar, and here are some bigger pics The Texas is my #1 fav. commemorative, closely followed by the Oregon. This coin was an early Christmas present. any one care to guess the grade?
I have grown to love originality in my coins, I am slowly replacing all of my blast white examples with toned... Thanks for the compliments... I am actually planning on sending it in to NGC to see if i can get a star
man that hurts! I'll give you a hint: this coin does not have a weak strike, full breast feathers. some of the toning in the image may be masking this.
I don't think I can guess any better than those who've already posted but I will agree that's a beautiful coin.
might as well let the cat out of the bag... its an MS67 in an NGC slab... I normally do not purchase ultra high grade because i can't justify the price spread, but this one really spoke to me... I like all of the commems, but some more then others. The texas is my #1 favorite, and i figured if i was going to have a "crown jewel" ths was a good choice. I have seen other MS67 texas's in PCGS and NGC slabs, but none of them had this ones eye apeal. Go on ebay and search for 67 texas in the early commems section to see what i mean... I am thinking about sending it in to see if i can get a star, but the darker toning on the periphery of the reverse may preclude it from star status... star to me
Man, anyone with half a brain that looks at that coin knows it's a "*". IMHO having some grading company put it on a slab is not necessary:smile
its $10 to send a coin in for deignation review. I have a huge submition i am sending in in a few weeks, so i think i will include it to see what happens. just to give a little background on how i afforded this coin (it was fairly priced, but by no means cheap) Ever single week i have $15 transfered to a savings account. every week. thats less than what most people spend on starbuck in a week, or what people spend smoking. most people can afford $15 a week, you really don't even notice it being gone... I am by no means a rich guy, I work for a living and pay my bills. I am also renovating a hosue right now, and beleive me that is taking up a whole lot more money than my coin collection I could have probably bought an entire commem set by now if it wasn;t for sheetrock and windows, toilets, etc! My wife gets mad at me, as i compare everything to how much coins cost. "Honey, we just purchased a spanish trails worrth of light fixtures!" "Good lord sweety, that washer is an antietem! can't you find one in a more san-diego price range?" anywho, i wanted to give that litle tip for all of you that are like me, not wealthy but salavating over the "nice" coins. It just takes a little more patience and will power. It also gives you more time to read and research!
Hey Ranchhand...beautiful coin...very beautiful!! The eyes of Texas are shinning on that one for sure. Can you explain the star thing. I am not up on such things from NGC as I have only PCGS.. Thanks and congrats on the Texas coin!! RickieB
thanks for the kind words, as far as the star designation goes no one explains it better then NGC themselves: http://www.ngccoin.com/coingrading/stardesignation.asp a star designation can bump a coins value through the roof, some people only buy star coins now (the really wealthy)
WOW---is all I can say!!! As for your $15 a week--that is a great idea!...I wish I could get one of my buddies to stop smoking---he is a cop and has done it for years but I'm slowly working on him---too bad he isn't a collector or maybe I would try this on him.. I normaly put back as much as I can each time I get a paycheck---if that is $10 then that or more whatever and when I find a coin I really like I just start putting back as much as I can---I guess someday I'll have to sell it and buy a house--- ;-) Speedy
here is a story you can tell your cop friend: My father used to smoke a pack a day. One day he got sick of the money he was spending on smokes, so he stopped. he started to put the money he would have been spending on killing himself into savings, and last year he purchased a sports car (chevy SRS, like a corvette and a truck had a baby) sure, it took him 15 years to save up the money, but at least he will be alive to enjoy the car
I wish that would work---the money isn't what he is bothered about---he just got elected Sheriff and so the pay is great---but he would much rather drive around an old pickup that he could go deer hunting in! Oh well---I'm working on him (about the only one that can--he doesn't like his wife to pick on him) and it is coming along! Way to go on your dad---sounds like a great car!!! I just can't get over what a nice coin this Comm is....and an MS67 !!!! WOW!!! Speedy
