    Hey folks,

New here. I posted earlier this week that about a year ago I had an 1883 morgan silver dollar stolen that had been a gift to me, and was bummed and looking to replace it. A few folks have been pointing me toward using it as an opportunity to "upgrade" to a nice one in better condition to enjoy. :)

In the meantime, I waltzed into a local coin shop I'd never been in before and they had a basic one. It reminded me so much of my old one in terms of appearance and condition that I decided to spring for this one also, even if it isn't as pristine (I wouldn't even begin to know how to rate it). As a new face, they were friendly and practically gave it to me. :)

Anyways, I just thought I would share. I know you guys see a lot of these, but it feels good to have it now, and is really the first thing I've ever brought home from a coin shop myself that I can think of. :) I took a scan of it (which makes it appear sort of flat) and tried to take a photo (which got all flash-crazy)... so sorry about that. Did the best I could. :)

    Have a nice weekend!

Turn off the flash on your camera and use two table lamps (preferably gooseneck models) positioned at about 10 & 2 o'clock with the bulbs angled about 45 degrees from the subject coin. Position your camera directly above the subject coin. This allows the lamps to illuminate the coin while permitting the light to bounce away from your camera's lens.

Thanks for the photo tips Chris. :) I'll have to see if I have some lamps around the house that work well.
