Not a collector of these but quite the fan. Looks to me like one heck o' a pickup JH...... Dat a planchet split on the reverse?
I see you paid $1050 for it. I think you have a winner if you can find a way to remove the black lines off the reverse.
No, unfortunately it is an ugly litte toning line. But it does not bother me that much as the rest of the coin looks fairly clean.
Gotta get treashunt in here to comment on this one. He loves these baby's....... He's asleep right now but he gets up real early........
Not sure what part "can't be" but If you are talking about the "toning line" then it most certainly can be. It all depends on how the coin was stored. Not to mention that most of these bust dollars have been cleaned in the past, this one could have looked horrible and after an old cleaning the only thing left is this one line and a few slight traces of past toning.
Then again, I could be completely wrong and it could be a crayon mark.... i haven't seen it in hand yet..
I don't think it's a crack. Also the listing did not say anything about a cracked or split planchet and the seller was a seasoned dealer. I don't think would be something left out. Besides, I'm sure my rock tumbler will remove any traces of toning on this bad boy anyhow...
I am having trouble assigning this thing a grade. I keep going between VG and F. I think the Obverse is a Fine and the Reverse is more of a VG. I would like to hear opinions on what anyone else thinks the grade would be. Thanks
