My Mother Made Me do it!

    One of my first coins I bought in the summer of 2014 was a denarius of Severus Alexander. Ever since then I’ve always been interested in his story: A 13 year old who comes to rule the empire who is constantly under his mothers thumb, but somehow does a good job as Emperor. Under more peaceful times Alexander could have easily ruled for decades, but it was not to be.....

    Anyhow, here is my latest coin purchase!!!!!

    AR denarius
    Rome mint, struck 228 CE
    Laureate bust right, wearing slight beard / Severus Alexander (as Romulus) advancing right, holding transverse spear and trophy
    3.11 g, 19 mm, silver, nearly as struck
    RIC IV 85; RSC 351

    That's lovely, @Magnus Maximus ! Here's my most recently acquired Severus Alexander:

    Roman AR denarius, 2.95 g, 19.4 mm, 1 h.
    Rome, issue 12, AD 231.
    Obv: IMP SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate head, right, with drapery on left shoulder.
    Rev: ANNONA AVG, Annona standing left, holding corn-ears in right hand over modius at feet and holding anchor in left hand.
    Refs: RIC 188; BMCRE 674-76; RSC 29a; RCV 7859.

    Well I always like to see a Sev Alex thread! Nice portrait, and an exceptionally nice version of that reverse. I'm missing that type from my middle bronze collection; here's one struck in about the same year though.
