I know it is pretty small and not impressive, but I feel acomplished for having only been coin collecting for almost 2 weeks. This is my collection of Lincoln Pennies. This picture is of the "D" mint mark coins (Still missing 66,67, &68) All of these were pulled out of rolls withing the past week or so. The "No mintmark" coins are not even worthy of taking a picture of yet. I'm working on that.
Oh, I do not think I knew that. Thank you for the information. That woule explain why I have a number of those in the "no mintmark" collection.
Also, the "no mint mark" are Philadelphia mint. the 3 years you mentioned, were the result of the 1964 and earlier silver grab taking so much coin out of circulation. The Congress told the mint, no mint marks for those three years. So Denver, Phili and San Fransisco mints all made coin with no mint mark for 65, 66, and 67. Their idea was to keep collectors from taking as much from circulation while they were rebuilding the amount of coin in circulation. In 68 they returned to Phili with no mint mark, D for Denver and S for San Fran. Years later, Phili started adding the P. This story and other interesting tidbits can be found in "The Official Red Book" A Guide to US Coins by R. S. Yeoman. Imo it is the basic guide that every beginner should have. Just remember, it is a guide, not the gospel. But it has lots of useful information.
