I was exited about my latest coin pick-up. It is an 1876 three cent nickel. I am happy with the condition and I really like the low mintage figures. I have been trying to acuire a few 1875 and 76 three cent nics. I started with the 71-74 but decided to go after the lower minage coins. Thanks for looking
It's a little flaw in the planchet of some sort, but not a scratch or dent. It adds a little character I think. (it also helped lower the price:thumb
Nice piece vipergts2 and like you said lower mintage. Kind of working on that set myself and there are some VERY low mintages that can still be had for under $500. Keep plugging away at it!
Another nice thing about the coin is that it's rather well struck. Most of the lines in the "III" are there. This series is notorious for incomplete lines in the Roman numeral. I've seen an MS-65 from a respected TPG no better struck than yours. And I've seen an MS-66 from a respected TPG with full lines but many of them flat. I've got one with fully struck lines but I had to fork over big money for it.
On the coins I have bought, I have tried to get ones with the lines showing. To me they can make the coin apear to be a better grade than it is. Plus I just like the details.
