I picked up another beauty! A 1927 Indian Head Quarter Gold Eagle. 3rd lowest mintage, and in UNC condition. Lots of original luster. This is another one that will probably head out for grading. I am having someone look at it closely. I've gotten a couple of coin people telling me it will come back MS. I really don't want to send it in unless I know there is a great chance of it coming back with an MS grade. Maybe a few more reassuring voices will help. Either way its going to be another keeper for me. At $290 I think I didn't go wrong. Sorry for the bad pictures, but I have a hard time with the shiny stuff sometimes. Thanks all for listening
Wow! Great looking coin with a steal of a deal price! Send it in, it should grade at minimum MS62, that's my guess.
I am not good enough to tell if it is genuine, but no at $290 not a bad deal. Heck I would send it in just make sure it was genuine - but that is me. And yes gold is hard to photograph. Nice pickup.
Its been authenticated by a few serious coin buddies of mine, so i'm not worried about it not being real. Yeah, I think this one is going in for submission. I don't know what the turn around time is from NGC or PCGS, but i'll post it when it returns.
I thought I stole my new G$1 at 150, 290 is a real steal on that one would have paid that willingly all day
Yup, the quarter gold eagles have grown on me quite a bit. Anytime I can find a nice example under $300, I can hardly resist. This one just happend to be a fluke. The guy who sold it to me wasnt a coin guy, he just saw what average ones were selling for on ebay not taking into account the condition, then gave me a discount for helping him avoid the (according to him) major hassle of listing and shipping.
It's worth $350 just for the gold. A local coin dealer sold 3 in that condition for $475 in inside of 15 min. It's probably Ms 63. You can probably get $500 for it. Nice find. ThE only problem is I didn't find it.
I have parted ways with my coins... they are officially on their way to PCGS. I actually live 15 minutes away from PCGS and there is a major coin dealer near them. They are charging me $32 per coin to grade. The lady who scrutinzed it told me to insure it for $3000, incase it grades out at MS65. She said MS62-MS65 depending who's grading and how much they've had to drink. I also sent in my 1854 Type II Princess head dollar, that she said has a shot at MS. Has a few scratches on her cheek, so it might come back MS details, but I think its worth a gamble since in MS60 they bring over $1800. I put these on another thread but I'll post them here too. I bought these about a week before the Indian head. The 1849, she told me to not grade it.
