Sorry my photo's won't suffice but my last box finished and out of this box of 2,500...Three rolls of Wheaties including a 1909P and 1927S, both in fine, the rest mostly from the 40's. Two rolls of Canadian cents, 27 Lincoln doubled dies from 1992-2005 and one I was able to attribute as a 2004P WDDR-081 in borderline unc/full red. All of the doubled dies were at the pillars to left and right of the statue. Over 100 die cracks, some very nice but mostly the newer Shield cents. And one Dominican copper. Not too shabby. And the hunt continues...
The most I've pulled out of a box was around 30 wheaties, 2 IHCs, and a few Canadians. I'd kill for 3 full rolls! Congrats!
Gee, I usually get more than 1,000 Wheaties from a box, and I can usually double that when Publix has a BOGO offer. Good for you, Tommy! Chris
Like I usually tell newbies (Not you), it's all in the luck of the draw. These were all sealed rolls, not regular returns, so I guess I must have stumbled upon someone cleaning house on the Wheats. I did find a 2005P doubled die that I cannot find on Wexler's list so saving that aside to send him along with a possible new doubled die on the 2009P Professional Years Lincoln Cent, along the right pillar at the 3rd set of windows on the reverse which also has a tell tale marker of a die crack with chip on the obverse on the forehead of each. Found about 15 so far in a Loomis wrapped full box of B.U.s. And these are only from the first 6 rolls so far.
Tommy, markers on the obverse don't do much good for a variety on the reverse because the dies could have been swapped out at different times. Chris
I should have realized that, thanks Chris. I'll have to check the reverse more carefully to see if there are any definitive markers there on each. Tough gettin' old. I can remember it but just not all at once...
Yep, it's why I like searching Mint bags! Whenever I find multiples of an unusual coin, the first thing I do is look for some marker that will link them together to the same die.......228-1980 Lincoln cents have the same two die scratches on the reverse with a clashed "Y".......36-1999P GA SQ's have the same kidney-shaped die chip in the middle of Washington's neck on the obverse with a die crack that grew progressively longer.......27-2001P Kennedy half dollars have the same round die chip in the shield on the reverse with a die break in the rays that grew progressively larger. It's cool when you can find anomalies like this that can be linked together in the minting process. Chris
You guys are doing pretty well. I find about one doubled die for every 4 boxes. I do find a few 1996-D lathe line cents now and then. I get about 50% Denver shield cents, and lots of 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981 Denver as well. Junk.
Don't feel bad. I can truthfully say I've seen my share of that date run and not found a single error there yet in three years.
