Oops. If it makes you feel better, I would have gone more than a bit higher, so at least you didn't barely miss out on it.
Wow, that is a great looking coin. Too bad I'm not through dental school or you guys might have to outbid me on these too.
Simply stunning , Mark since I don't have it in hand , I was wondering what you would grade her without the toning , When I win the lotto you'll all have to outbid me . LOL JK rzage
I was thinking about bidding higher, but I already have an 1881-S MS68 & a gorgeous deeply toned Great Falls MS67. The Great Falls dollar is truly difficult to appreciate through a photograph and only true toning enthusiasts would really like it. BTW Mark, Did you happen to get a look at lot 8574, 1923 Peace Dollar NGC MS66*. I lost that one also. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1127&Lot_No=8574 :smile
That coin certainly has some color. I'll be the first to admit that based on the photos it's not my favorite Morgan. But, from my experience with deeply toned coins...you gotta see them in hand. I'll bet this is a real treasure in hand.
I thought it deserved a 67, even without the color. I won't say "never", but rarely do I buy a coin that I feel is over-graded, even if I like it a lot in other respects.
Paul, I would bet that your Morgan looks much better in-hand. I don't think I viewed lot #8574. If by chance I did, for some reason, I didn't like it enough to place a bid.
MMM MMM GOOD! That looks great I can only imagine what it looks like in person! I bet the pics don't do it justice Congrats on the new pickup
Mike, I liked it because technically, I think it deserved a 67, even without the color. On top of that, to my eye, the obverse color is gorgeous and in-person, the combination of that color, along with the luster, gives it a glowing appearance that really hits me.
great coin, beautiful fields, according to my 1965 price guide one of those should set you back two dollars. What a change that the ms grades have wrought on collecting.
I'm kind of surprised to hear you say that what with all the rim dings and what appears to be a large hit at the point of the neck on the obv. Add to that that the coin has a somewhat soft strike on the obv and I just wouldn't think that it deserves a 67. Just my opinion.
In fairness, GDJMSP, I'll bet if you were shown 100 NGC/PCGS Morgans in 67, you'd only like 1 of them...maybe.
