I haven't posted on here for a while. Went to college at the beginning of fall and had to put my coin hobby on hold. However, I am currently in Switzerland cataloging my Great-grandmother's coin collection.

I have to say this collection is amazing!!! She has every swiss coin minted from 1850-1970. Each 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 rappen and centime piece and each 1, 2 5 franc CHF coin. A copy of every commemorative and medal up to 1980. Also a decent collection of Gold vreneli and even a small collection of coins from all over the place. I will begin to post pictures later today and tomorrow as I really get into this collection.

Anyway's Here's a quick picture of the collection. 22 full books, two cigar boxes, some other box and a metal lock box.

    Sounds like a great collection!!

Plus, it is certainly extra special that the coins were collected by your great Grandmother!! (it's a feel good thread)

Thank you for sharing this treasure. I love seeing coins come "out of the wild" like this... it alludes to my fondness of finding and buying old Whitman coin holders in estate sales.

If you have time I would like to hear a little about how she collected. Since a child. Did she pick this stuff out of circulation, go to coin shows. Did she just collect never sold. I think this is a neat story. Must be fun for you. Enjoy.

Well my great-grandmother (Kamo) was married three times. She outlived all three of her husbands. However, her first husband was Edouard Muller. Edouard Muller, my great-grandfather, was at one point the President and CEO of Nestle. =) He was a very influential man here in Switzerland and built his own house in Switzerland.
Kamo, herself, was a very proper lady. Having been married to Edouard, she was never short of funds. In her later years, after her third marriage, she took up coin collecting. To my knowledge, most of her coins were sought after and purchased by herself. She wanted to fill these books, and stopped at nothing but to search for the rarer coins and purchase them.

WOW! This is mind-boggling. Lots of gold you got there. I think you have a fortune here, Wow nice. Personally I would never sell it though if I had it since it would have value as being from your great-grandmother. Reminds me of my lot of world coins I got from my parents that got me started coin collecting cause they were ruining the condition just sitting all together.

    Your grandmother was Else Hemmeler?

Do you have Edouard's stamp collection, as well? I would LOVE to see that!
