My grandfather gave me a bag of silver dimes that he had saved just for silver value. Most were Roosevelt's but was a few hundred mercury dimes also. Instead of sitting in the safe I decided to put them in a album. Here are couple of the nicer ones. I know the pictures are bad, I have a bad phone and not very good at taking pics. Any idea on grade or if they would be worth any more than melt? I got 52 holes in the folder filled so happy with my start!
No none of the key dates! He told me when he gave them to me not to bother looking for 1916 d because he checked them all! I thought maybe a 21 or a 26s but no luck!
Very much so! That is why I wanted to put them in a album so it can sit out and we can enjoy them and remember him!
I went to lcs today and found 2 more. One common date for $1 and a 21 that has some damage on the back but it is decent and fills a key date hole and only cost $10 so can upgrade later if I want to.
That is very cool. That is the next folder I want to work on. I just need to buy the folder and find the coins to put in it. I have a long road to go.lol
Common, but nice. They're a fun series. Sounds like you're making good progress, too. PS- your pix aren't bad at all. Like most of my own recent cellphone shots, they fall solidly into "adequate" territory.
Very nice that you are displaying them and not letting them collect space in the safe! I'm sure he would love that!
I got started with Merc's in a similar way - my mom & dad showed me a cigar box of circulated silver and wheat in the late 60's. I sorted them, got some folders, and started filling in the holes (Sorry for my lousy pictures)
Just a update. Didn't want to start a new thread. My grandfather had few more coins I ended up with. He had bag with about 15 Buffalo nickels, 6 Morgan dollars,6 peace dollars, about $80 face value of walking liberty half dollars and $50 face value of silver quarters. I am amazed he had the foresight to save so much so long ago.
