I am looking to set a goal to own 5000 international coins by the end of the year. I recently picked up about 3 pounds of international coins for about 20.00 canadian. There were a lot of British coins from the mid to late 1900's and a few early 1900 penny. Does anyone know a good way or place to grab up international coins for a fair price. Right now I have about 400. I am a big fan of the british coins because of the variety they offer. I also like the Russia coins and China, Japan and Korea. Any help would be great. I am new here and am hoping to gather as much information as I can to further my knowledge of the hobby.
Do you want 5,000 distinct coins ? I hope you consider collecting by year then. Following moneyer12's advise will do a lot of help. I myself have gotten almost all my coins making swaps with other people. See my website for a list of good traders (meaning people you can trust). Good luck!
If you just want coins and don't care what they are, sometimes you can find bulk auctions on ebay like "100 British pennies" or things like that. Many coin dealers have world coins in bulk discount bins too because they don't specialize in them.
all i can say is that if you join a swap site then collection will multiply at a rate of knots, in the past 3 months my argentina collection has gone from 20 to around 500, the one i sent you is definitely the best one as it shows collectors who have been given negative ratings and if they accumulate 8 then they are removed from the site
If 5000 international coins is your goal, I would look at lb lots on ebay. Search around a while, look at the photos closely, and buy a 10 lb lot or something and have fun searching. I have not even tried and I have much more world coins than that just from group lots I have bought. I did buy a 15 pound lot once for other reasons and noticed it would have been perfect for what you want to do.
I'm a member of this website http://en.numista.com/ it allows swaps although I have never done any. You can also catalogue your collection and it has a world map which shows were your coins are in the world. It gave me the aim to try and get at least one coin from each country and fill in the map. Dave.
i was a member of that one but the one i am now on is much better it is c"o"l"n"e"c"t use the letters only and it will take you to it. you can also use the site for banknotes as well.
our postal service is locked out and i would never pay the shipping fees to canada for 10 pounds of coins.
