I found my first minting errors last night (I’m sure I’ve come across some before but never noticed due to my untrained eyes.) I think I’ve found a die crack. I was looking at some Kennedy halves and noticed a fine line on the obverse, running from the very tip of JFK’s neck (on the left side of his bust), diagonally downward toward the rim at about the seven o’clock position. I noticed two 1995 Ps with this, and looked closely and realized that the line was actually raised, not scratched into the surface, so I guessed it was a die crack. I looked at twenty or so other coins and I found a total of eight of them—six on 1995 Ps, and two more on two other years. All the cracks are in the same position. So my question is, since I’ve found this on three different years, is this a really common place for a die crack on Kennedys? Is it just a weak spot on the die?
Oh, there was a previous discussion of the same topic.http://cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=932&mode=threaded I guess it's a pretty common place for a die crack
