Picked this up from Great Collections to "pad" another invoice. Was pretty cheap at $12 (including premium), I think.

1837 "Coronet" Cent (also called "Matron"?)

I guessed before scrolling, I thought it might go fine details enviro damage. Not bad at $12 and you can use it to teach youngster about collecting without being out a ton of money.

Congrats on the first Large Cent! Not bad for the price.

I did guess VG on the grade (ignoring the issues). Good to know my guessing, err.. grading skills aren't too rusty.

As I've seen. I know clean examples with good detail sell for much more! With this one I liked the level of detail that remained and don't find the pitting too distracting.

I made a mistake in my price on post 1, though...I actually paid $13.50 as delivered.

I've been looking out for a nice, cheap earlier version like the Flowing Hair. Just love that someone felt the need to explicitly state "1/100" (or 1/200 on half cents) on the old old ones.

You have to remember that a cent, being one hundredth of the basic unit was a new concept to people back then who were used to reckoning in pounds, shillings, and pence. There were 240 pennies (480 half pennies) to the Pound. They might need a reminder.

Currency on the system used now was hard to figure out of the period just as hard as British shilling system to us now. Coin has a lot of meat tho pitted as described you paid less then submission cost so a good deal

was close, I gave it Genuine-env dmg. surprised that they gave it a grade as well nice score for the price though :D only LC I have slabbed is my 57 and that only because there are so damn many fakes for that year I didn't trust my own knowledge enough to buy raw.
