I got this dollar bill at a jewelry/antique shop this last weekend in San Francisco for $5.00, along with some silver I got for under spot. They told me they didn't know what kind of error it was, at the time I didn't know either. My question is how common are these ? Did I get a good deal on this ,paying five bucks? Thank you for any help.

I would say so. On a $1 (depending on overall condition) a gutter fold should sell for $15 and up.

I paid about $45 for mine (1957 A) with four gutter folds. It's in well circulated condition.

Thanks fish....I won it in an auction on eBay as the only bidder with a $9.99 start. The auction ended at 3:00 AM on a Tuesday morning and I bid thru "JustSnipe" on a whim.
