Picked up my first gold cert yesterday from my local coin shop. Somewhat of an impulse buy, I paid a little over $100($105) for a ten-dollar note in Fine condition. My Whitman currency guide lists it at $85,but I saw one on E-bay with a buy now price of $135,so it averages out about right for what I paid. The Whitman guide is copyright 2004 and may be a bit low. In any case I’m excited to finally have a gold note to add to my growing small sized currency collection. Check it out
105 is about right for a local coin shop. I would price that around 80 because of the stain... but they price a percentage up to make some money off of it (you have to pay that to keep them in business). I would say it's a good price to pay!
I tried to reduce the stain using a pencil erasure, it seemed to help somewhat but I was worried about damage and stopped. Does anyone know if this is a good idea? Obviously it should be done very carefully, using a light touch with the erasure. To my eye you can't see any damage where I did the cleaning.
i will use an erasure LIGHTLY only to remove dirt unless the bill is heavily worn is CLOTH like... then in that case no
Silver Surfer, that is a very nice Gold Certificate you have got there. You should check the Pick prices on this as well. Aidan.
Hey silversurfer...Nice Gold Note!!:thumb: :thumb: I just started looking at paper and WOW is there ever some nice examples of early stuff out there! It is as expensive or more than gold itself!! Good hunting!! RickieB
Your local public library probably has the Standard Catalog of Paper Money with the Pick numbers and the values of currency in various conditions.
